​Family of 3 found dead by hanging, alleged poisoning in Ho Chi Minh City

A middle-aged couple and their teenage son have been discovered dead inside their home on Tuesday in what could be a murder-suicide.

The deceased were identified as Nguyen Van Linh, 49, his wife Le Thi Kim Lien, 44, and their son Nguyen Thanh Nguyen, 15, who all lived at a home on Chuong Duong Street in Thu Duc District.

According to Thu Duc Police, a neighbor of the family was walking past their house at around 9:45 am on Tuesday when she saw Linh’s dead body hanging from the ceiling through an open window.

The neighbor immediately phoned Le Minh Tuan, 53, an older brother of Lien, to inform him of her awful discovery.

Tuan arrived shortly after and used a sledgehammer to break into the locked house, only to discover that Lien and Nguyen were also lying dead on the floor, inside a mosquito net.

Police arrived later to carry out an autopsy, a crime scene investigation and to collect eye-witness accounts after being informed of the incident at around 10:05 am.

Initial investigations revealed no signs of disturbance or anything that would indicate a violent struggle.

No evidence of external force was found on the bodies of the mother and son, and their faces appeared pale, with blood coming from their mouths – tell-tale signs of poisoning, according to an investigator.

Linh’s body was found in a hanged position.

According to neighbors of the family, Lien earned a living running a small street-side soup stand, while Linh worked as a construction worker.

Their son Nguyen was attending a junior high school in Thu Duc District.
