Ferries and high-speed vessels between Rach Gia and Ha Tien Cities and Phu Quoc City of southern Kien Giang Province resumed on Sunday after a two-day suspension given bad weather.
At about 7:30 am on Sunday, the Rach Gia terminal was crowded with passengers who wanted to buy ferry and vessel tickets for Phu Quoc, and Nam Du and Hon Son Islands in Kien Hai District.
Many laborers were hurriedly loading cargo on vessels so that the goods could be moved to the islands before the Lunar New Year, or Tet, holiday.
“I planned to visit my relatives in Phu Quoc. However, ferries and vessels were suspended due to bad weather over the past two days, so I had to rent a hostel room in Rach Gia City," said Nguyen Thi Kieu Diem, a resident of the southernmost province of Ca Mau. “I heard that high-speed vessels resumed today, so I have immediately bought a ticket to Phu Quoc."
“As vessels resume given improved weather, I am very happy," said Nguyen Van Huynh, residing in Vinh Quang Ward, Rach Gia City.
"Five boxes of Tet goods, including sugar, salt, and rice, will be sent to Phu Quoc in time so that my younger sister can sell them before Tet.”
According to Ho Thanh Sang, chief representative of the Phu Quoc Maritime Administration, high-speed vessel operators may increase the frequency by one to two services per day in the next several days depending on the number of passengers.
