Infantino will be accompanied by FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafstrom during the visit, VFF said.

The two football officials are scheduled to watch the title decider at My Dinh National Stadium, which kicks off at 8:00 pm.

Infantino is expected to arrive in Vietnam by private jet.

Vietnam will enter the match with a two-goal advantage after beating Thailand 2-0 in the first leg at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on August 22, putting the defending champions in a strong position to retain the regional title on home soil.

This will be Infantino’s second visit to Vietnam as FIFA president.

He first visited the country in February 2018, shortly after Vietnam finished as runners-up at the AFC U23 Championship in Changzhou, China.

During that trip, Infantino met Vietnamese government and sports officials and visited the VFF headquarters.

Vietnamese football has expanded its representation in international football bodies in recent years.

VFF president Tran Quoc Tuan has served on the AFC Executive Committee since 2011 and currently chairs the AFC Competitions Committee.

Nguyen Thi My Dung was elected to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and also serves as a Vietnamese arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Most recently, VFF vice-president for professional affairs Tran Anh Tu was appointed head of an AFC beach soccer delegation for the 20th Asian Games in Japan.

The 2026 ASEAN Championship, held from July 24 to August 26, features 10 teams divided into two groups.

Vietnam advanced from Group A, which also included Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia and Timor-Leste, while Thailand emerged from Group B alongside Malaysia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Laos.

The two regional rivals went on to reach the two-legged final, with defending champions Vietnam taking control of the tie after a 2-0 victory in Bangkok on Saturday.
