BAF Vietnam Agriculture JSC proposed developing up to five high-rise pig farming facilities in Hanoi at a meeting between Hanoi vice-chairman Bui Duy Cuong and the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment on Thursday.

Speaking at the meeting, Truong Sy Ba, chairman of BAF Vietnam, said the firm is seeking to invest in a multi-story indoor pig farming model combined with circular agriculture on a site covering some 220 hectares in Bat Bat Commune.

The project would operate as a closed-loop system equipped with modern production lines, covering the entire process from breeding stock to commercial pork production.

Compared with traditional farming methods, the model is expected to reduce land use requirements while lowering feed consumption and labor costs.

Ba also emphasized that the high-rise farming approach could help address environmental pressures.

BAF Vietnam proposed that the Hanoi administration approve its investment plan and incorporate the project site in Bat Bat Commune into the city’s master planning framework.

In addition, the firm asked for permission to proceed under a special investment mechanism and benefit from lots of favorable conditions to accelerate implementation.

Representatives from various municipal departments and agencies highly valued the potential economic and environmental benefits of the project.

However, they urged the firm to conduct further studies on waste treatment processes, environmental impact assessments, and measures to ensure social welfare.

Addressing the meeting, vice-chairman Cuong assigned the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead in reviewing the proposal, including its compatibility with Hanoi’s planning framework and policy regulations, and to conduct a comprehensive evaluation.

He also instructed BAF Vietnam to prepare and submit a formal project dossier to the municipal Department of Finance for review, regulatory assessment, and appraisal before it is presented to the Hanoi People’s Committee for consideration.

In late September last year, BAF Vietnam and China's Muyuan Foods Co., Ltd., a global leader in livestock farming, signed a joint venture agreement to build Vietnam's first high-rise pig farm in Tay Ninh Province, southern Vietnam.
