Foreign national stabs police officer after traffic accident in Vietnam

According to initial reports, at around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, the ward’s police received a call about a collision between a taxi and a motorbike driven by a foreign national on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street.

The taxi driver told officers that the foreign motorcyclist appeared intoxicated and had collided with his car.

Major Pham Nguyen Duc Lam, a ward police officer, arrived at the scene with colleagues to investigate.

While Lam was speaking briefly in English with the suspect, the man suddenly pulled out a concealed knife and stabbed the officer, causing serious injuries.

He then fled the scene on a motorbike heading toward Ho Chi Minh City.

Lam Dong police launched a manhunt and apprehended the suspect in the early hours of Thursday.

Authorities said the case is under further investigation.
