Social media accounts widely shared a video on Tuesday evening showing an argument at a juice shop in Nha Trang Ward after a foreign tourist asked for a refund, claiming the drink he bought showed signs of mold.
Tue Van, the owner of the juice shop, confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper that he was the person seen arguing with the tourist in the video.
According to Van, the incident occurred at around 9:00 pm on Monday, when the foreign tourist came to his shop and bought a cup of beetroot juice for VND39,000 (US$1.5).
After drinking about half of the cup, the tourist complained that the juice appeared to have mold in it and demanded a refund.
The tourist later gave the shop a one-star review on Google Maps and posted several complaints about the establishment.
Van said he had explained that he could replace the drink, but could not offer a refund because what he saw was foam from the beetroot juice, not mold.
“We explained everything to him politely, but he still refused,” Van added.
Explaining why the shop refused to issue a refund, Van said doing so would inadvertently imply that there was a problem with the drink, while the shop was confident about the quality of its products.
After the two sides failed to reach an agreement, the tourist left the shop.
The incident has since been widely shared on travel forums.
