Foreign visitors captivated by international beach wrestling spectacle in Da Nang

The Da Nang competition is the first of five stops of the 2026 Beach Wrestling World Series, a premier circuit under the United World Wrestling.

It marks the first time Vietnam has hosted a stage of the global series.

Nearly 100 athletes from Vietnam and 12 other countries and territories are competing across multiple weight categories.

The men's divisions range from 70 kilograms to over 90 kilograms, while the women's categories span from 50 kilograms to over 70 kilograms.

All matches take place directly on the sand, where wrestlers showcase strength, speed, and technique in fast-paced, physically demanding contests.

The Da Nang stop of the 2026 Beach Wrestling World Series is regarded as an important milestone for Vietnam, marking the country's debut as a host of a top-tier international wrestling event.

Organizers said the tournament also aims to promote cultural and sporting exchanges among participating nations.

The event has drawn large crowds to My Khe Beach, with many international tourists pausing along the shoreline to watch the action unfold.

Lee Woo Jin, a South Korean visitor, said he was excited to watch the thrilling matches taking place right on the beach, repeatedly holding up his phone to capture the most impressive moments of the bouts.

"At first, I only planned to go to the beach to swim and enjoy the scenery, but I didn't expect to come across such an exciting international sporting event," he said.

"The matches are very intense, and watching athletes compete against the blue sea creates a very unique feeling. The scenery is truly beautiful."

Spectators were seen taking photos and cheering as wrestlers executed powerful throws and dramatic reversals on the sand.

Set against the backdrop of one of Vietnam's most well-known beaches, the high-energy contests created a lively, festival-like atmosphere.

Blending sport and tourism, the event underscores Da Nang's ambition to position itself as a dynamic, modern and globally connected destination, while showcasing the natural beauty of Vietnam's central coast.
