A leader of the administration in Duong To Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam said on Monday that local authorities are reviewing an incident involving a foreign tourist riding a motorbike on Tran Hung Dao Street without wearing a helmet, letting go of the handlebars and allowing a child to steer the vehicle.

At around 10:00 am on Monday, a nine-second video capturing the incident was posted on Phu Quoc social media.

In the video, the foreign man appeared cheerful and amused.

After the video was shared online, it drew numerous comments from residents expressing dissatisfaction with the tourist’s behavior.

On May 7, the traffic police unit in Kien Giang handled a case involving Aleksandr, born in 1980, of Russian nationality, who was riding a motorbike hands-free and without a helmet on a road in Bai Thom Commune, Phu Quoc City.

Local police have advised organizations and individuals providing motorbike rental services to thoroughly check the legal qualifications of renters, especially ensuring that they hold a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle used in Vietnam.
