Foreigner punches Vietnamese traffic police officer on duty

A Russian national punched a traffic police officer in the mouth while the officer was attempting to mediate a minor road accident in Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam on Thursday morning, causing the officer to suffer facial injuries.

A leader from the Nha Trang traffic police team told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper the same day that one of their officers had been assaulted while on duty.

At around 6:30 am, the traffic police team was notified of a traffic collision at the intersection of Tran Phu and Tue Tinh Streets in Nha Trang and then dispatched its officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Tung Giang determined that a Russian man had been involved in a minor collision with another motorbike.

As the two parties began arguing, Giang attempted to mediate.

While the officer was explaining the situation, the Russian man suddenly demanded to take his motorbike and leave.

Without warning, he punched Lieutenant Colonel Giang in the mouth, causing bleeding.

According to police, the Russian man showed signs of alcohol consumption and was confirmed to be under the influence.

He was immediately restrained by officers and taken to the local police station.

He has been handed over to the Nha Trang Ward police division for further investigation and will be dealt with in accordance with Vietnamese law.
