Four 3-wheeled motorcycle drivers fined over traffic violations during wedding procession in Vietnam

The Traffic Police Division under the Dong Thap Police said on Monday that it had completed an investigation and imposed penalties on the four drivers after receiving reports from the public through Facebook.

Earlier, the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security forwarded a citizen's report along with a video showing four three-wheeled motorcycles traveling on National Highway 1 through My Duc Tay Commune in Dong Thap Province.

The video showed the vehicles carrying more passengers than permitted, with several passengers not wearing helmets.

Following the report, Dong Thap traffic police officers investigated the case and summoned the drivers for questioning. 

All four admitted to the violations.

One driver, identified as 53-year-old Hau Phi Cuong from My Loi Commune, Dong Thap Province, was fined VND1.2 million (US$45.7) for carrying passengers without helmets and transporting more than three passengers.

He also had two points deducted from his driver's license.

The other three drivers — Nguyen Van Muoi Hai, 48; Dang Tan Viet, 25; and Dang Van Son, 47, all from My Duc Tay Commune — were found to have committed the same offenses.

In addition, they were cited for driving without a valid driver's license and operating vehicles without registration certificates.

Each of the three drivers was fined VND10.7 million ($407).

According to police, all three admitted that their vehicles lacked valid legal documentation. As a result, the vehicles were confiscated in accordance with Vietnamese regulations.
