Kim announced the 23-player Vietnam squad on Friday morning for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
Compared with the squad that won the ASEAN Cup 2026 last month, Vietnam have retained most of their core players.
The squad includes Slovakia-born goalkeeper Le Giang Patrik, Thanh Chung, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Pham Xuan Manh, Hoang Duc, Quang Hai, Le Pham Thanh Long, Hai Long and Dinh Bac, as well as naturalized Brazilian-born players Nguyen Xuan Son, Do Hoang Hen and Nguyen Tai Loc.
The team will also welcome back several familiar faces, including goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, center-back La Ngoc Bao and French-born Vietnamese defender Cao Pendant Quang Vinh.
However, the most notable additions are Nguyen Adou Leygley Minh, known as Adou Minh, and Williams Minh Hoang, both of whom recently obtained Vietnamese citizenship.
Born in 1997, Adou Minh currently plays for Hanoi Police FC. The French-born Vietnamese center-back has experience playing in the V-League and has been confirmed by FIFA as eligible to represent Vietnam.

Williams Minh Hoang, born in 2007, currently plays for Ho Chi Minh City Police FC. The England-born Vietnamese player stands 1.90 meters tall and made an impression during his first V-League season.
His call-up at the age of 19 gives Williams an opportunity to become familiar with the national-team environment and gain experience as Vietnam prepare for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 will be held from September 24 to October 5, during the September 2026 FIFA Days and feature 14 national teams divided into two divisions.
Vietnam will compete in Division 1, in Group B alongside Thailand, the Philippines and Pakistan.
Vietnam will face the Philippines on September 26, Thailand on September 29 and Pakistan on October 2.
With limited preparation time, retaining most of the players who played together at the ASEAN Cup 2026 is expected to provide Vietnam with greater stability in personnel and their playing system.
The Vietnam Football Federation Disciplinary Committee has suspended left-back Doan Van Hau for four V-League 2026-27 matches and fined him VND20 million (US$760) for a reckless studs-up tackle on The Cong - Viettel midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan.
Although the V-League and national-team level are separate competitions, the Hanoi Police FC defender was also left out of Kim Sang-sik’s Vietnam squad for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
