A Friendship Walk was organized in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday, drawing over 1,800 participants, including diplomatic leaders, city officials, consuls general, and members of international business associations, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s diplomatic service (August 28, 1945-2025).

Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the city's Department of External Relations, the walk also marked the 50th anniversary of the department.

In his opening speech, Pham Dut Diem, acting director of the municipal department, emphasized that the event offered an opportunity for city leaders, residents, and international friends to stay healthy while reflecting on the proud achievements of Vietnam's diplomacy and the city's notable international engagements.

He recalled the words of President Ho Chi Minh, the country's first foreign minister: "A healthy citizenry means a healthy nation."

Following the opening ceremony, participants set off from Le Duan Boulevard, passed through Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, and concluded their walk at the International Friendship Symbol in Bach Dang Wharf Park.

Diem noted that the route was chosen "as a firm commitment to continue efforts to elevate Vietnam's diplomacy to broader horizons."

At the finish line, Tran Xuan Thuy, deputy director of the external relations department, highlighted that the International Friendship Symbol was not only an outstanding artistic landmark but also a vivid testament to the spirit of friendship, solidarity, and long-term cooperation between the city and its international partners.
