Police in Binh Phu Commune said on Monday that they had returned the wallet to the tourist, who had misplaced it while visiting the area.
Earlier on the afternoon of March 23, a student from Phuong Thanh Middle School in Binh Phu spotted a brown wallet on National Highway 53 on the way to school.
Inside were cash, a driver’s license, and three bank cards bearing a foreign name.
The student, whose name has not been disclosed, brought the wallet to Vo Van Ben, a teacher at the school, seeking help to locate the owner.
The case was then reported to local police, who verified the information and identified the owner as Englke Klaus, a 69-year-old German tourist staying at a guesthouse in the commune.
Officers contacted Klaus and arranged for him to retrieve his belongings.
Upon receiving the wallet, Klaus expressed his deep gratitude to those involved in its return and said he was touched by the student’s honesty and the teacher’s support.
He also commended the prompt and responsible actions of the local police, saying their efforts reflected a people-centered approach to public service and left a positive impression of Vietnam on international visitors.
