Goalkeeper Le Giang Patrik earns highest rating in Vietnam’s 2-0 win over Malaysia

Vietnam beat hosts Malaysia 2-0 on Sunday, with Le Giang playing a key role in keeping a clean sheet.

The Cong An Ho Chi Minh City goalkeeper received a 7.8 rating, the highest among players from both teams.

During the 90-minute match, he made three saves, including two from shots inside the penalty area, and punched the ball clear once.

His sharp reflexes and sound judgment proved crucial as Malaysia put Vietnam under pressure at several stages of the match.

In the 35th minute, Le Giang denied a close-range effort from the hosts to keep Vietnam’s goal intact.

He was shown a straight red card in the 60th minute following a collision with Sumareh, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review found that the Malaysian forward had committed a foul first.

Le Giang made another important save in the 90+2nd minute, stopping a shot from a tight angle to preserve Vietnam’s clean sheet.

Defender Bui Hoang Viet Anh was Vietnam’s second-highest-rated player with 7.6 points, while forward Nguyen Dinh Bac received 7.3 for his energetic display and attacking threat.

Nguyen Xuan Son, who opened the scoring with a spectacular diving header, was rated 7.0. Nguyen Thanh Chung, Nguyen Hoang Duc, and Pham Xuan Manh also received 7.0.

Vietnam’s second goal came from an own goal by Faris Danish.

The 2-0 victory gives head coach Kim Sang Sik’s side a significant advantage ahead of the second leg at My Dinh Stadium on August 19.
