The Chinese national, Lai Jian Syun, arrived at the airport from Guangzhou on Tuesday evening and then took a taxi to the downtown area, according to the Noi Bai International Airport authority.
When Lai reached his destination, he realized he had left his suitcase in the taxi.
He did not remember the cab’s license plate number or any details about the driver.
Lai then urgently returned to the airport at 11:45 pm that evening and reported the situation to Kieu Huy Hung, an on-duty security officer at Terminal 2, seeking help to recover the backpack, which contained a laptop, 100,000 Chinese yuan ($13,900), and personal items.
Despite the language barrier, Hung patiently listened to Lai’s explanation, using Google Translate to understand the passenger.
Hung reviewed CCTV footage of the taxi area but he could not identify the cab’s license plate number or any details of the driver.
However, through coordination with relevant authorities, Hung was eventually able to locate the taxi and contact the driver to notify him about Lai’s situation.
The driver returned the suitcase to the terminal at around 12:30 am on Wednesday, and it was handed back to Lai.
Upon recovering the lost item, the Chinese national sent an email to the passenger service quality section at the airport, expressing his gratitude for the assistance.
