Hanoi hospitals race to treat 28 survivors after fatal expressway passenger bus crash

Hospitals in Hanoi are providing emergency treatment to 28 people injured after a passenger bus carrying 32 people veered off Phap Van-Cau Gie Expressway near the Ha Vy underpass area and plunged onto a nearby service road in the capital in the wee hours of Friday.

Four people were killed in the accident.

The 28 injured passengers were transported to several medical facilities for emergency treatment, including General Hospital of Agricultural, Thuong Tin Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, and Viet Duc University Hospital.

Viet Duc University Hospital said that it immediately activated emergency response procedures after receiving notification of the crash early on Friday.

Medical teams promptly admitted the injured, providing emergency care, resuscitation, and surgery where necessary.

Doctors are continuing to closely monitor patients’ conditions while coordinating treatment across multiple specialties.

Among the most critically injured is an 18-year-old patient from Bac Ninh Province, identified as P.C.T..

The teenager suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including an open fracture of the left lower leg, a fractured left femur, a fractured left pelvic bone, traumatic brain injury, facial trauma, and suspected abdominal injuries.

The patient is currently receiving intensive care, while doctors conduct further assessments to determine the next stage of treatment.

Another patient, identified as D.D.M., 54, from Thai Nguyen Province, was admitted with open fractures to the left upper arm and both bones of the left forearm.

After a comprehensive evaluation, surgeons performed emergency surgery in an effort to treat the injuries and preserve the function of the affected limb.

A representative from General Hospital of Agricultural told Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper that the hospital is actively treating victims from the crash.

Due to the severity of the accident and the large number of injured passengers, casualties were distributed among nearby hospitals to ensure they received timely medical attention.

The accident occurred at around 0:15 am on Friday on Phap Van-Cau Gie Expressway near the Ha Vy underpass in Chuong Duong Commune, Hanoi.

The passenger bus was traveling along the expressway in the direction from Ninh Binh Province to Hanoi, when it suddenly veered off the expressway and crashed onto the service road below.

The vehicle was carrying 32 people at the time of the crash.

The driver was identified as N.V.B., a 43-year-old resident of Thai Nguyen Province.

Following reports of the incident, police in Chuong Duong Commune and rescuers were dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue operations and assist the victims.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
