Hanoi orders probe into suspected child sex ring implicating virgin girls

The Hanoi administration has ordered the local police to promptly verify reports of a local child sex ring allegedly grooming virgin young girls for sex.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has issued a dispatch to the city’s Department of Police, asking the agency to launch an investigation into the alleged crime.

A series of investigative reports aired on Sunday and Monday by national broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV) exposed an illegal sex ring in Ba Vi District that has allegedly manipulated teenage girls into “selling” their virginity.

In video interviews, the victims, who are mostly 14 and 15 year olds, claimed they had been tricked into doing “easy jobs” for up to VND500,000 (US$21.5) each time.

The girls said they were not aware their virginity was being offered for sale or that the job was prostitution.

Once a price on the girls’ virginity had been agreed upon by a client, they would be taken to a location for sex with the payer, often against their will.

Ring members were careful to switch vehicles multiple times along the way to avoid being tracked.

Nguyen Duc Binh, principal of Khanh Thuong Middle School in Ba Vi District, said he spotted a suspicious taxi and motorbike on his way to work on the afternoon of December 9, 2019.

The two vehicles were parked in front of an alley, Binh stated, adding that there were two women on the motorcycle, which did not have a license plate.

As Binh came closer, the women on the motorbike zoomed away and he saw N.T.T.H. and N.P.T., who are ninth graders at his school, walked out of the alley and headed toward the cab.

The principal stopped them and took them to his office, before calling their parents for a working session.

H. and T. later admitted they were about to meet with their “customers” following the arrangement of two women named Anh and Yen.

The Hanoi administration has asked that police officers submit the result of their investigation into the suspected child sex ring by no later than January 30.
