Starting Saturday, the strengthening of a western low-pressure system will bring hot weather to the midlands and Red River Delta, where temperatures are expected to reach 35-36 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 37 degrees Celsius.
By Sunday, the heat will expand across the entire northern region, becoming more intense with highs of 35-37 degrees Celsius, and locally above 37 degrees Celsius.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms may still occur in the evenings.
Vu Tuan Anh, a forecaster at the center's weather forecast department, said the heat will ease on Monday.
From late Monday into Tuesday, northern Vietnam is likely to experience widespread heavy rain, bringing cooler and more comfortable conditions.
In central Vietnam, hot weather will persist due to southwest monsoon winds.
From Thanh Hoa Province to Da Nang City and the eastern parts of Quang Ngai Province to Dak Lak Province, temperatures will range from 35-38 degrees Celsius, with some locations exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
By Tuesday, the heat in central Vietnam is expected to gradually subside, concentrating mainly in Quang Tri, Da Nang, eastern Quang Ngai, and Gia Lai.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the north-central region starting Monday evening.
