Torrential downpours have caused severe flooding at Du Long Industrial Park in Thuan Bac Commune in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, sidelining over 6,000 workers.

On Monday morning, hours-long rainfall inundated several roads throughout the industrial park.

Water levels rose rapidly, reaching between 0.8 and one meter in some areas, making it impossible for firms to continue operations.

Nguyen Van Sang, deputy director of Hoang Thanh Du Long Industrial Park Investment JSC and representative of the industrial park’s developer, confirmed that more than 6,000 employees at multiple companies and factories were asked to stop work temporarily due to the flooding.

The management board of the industrial park also suspended electricity supply to prevent accidents.

The flooding has disrupted production schedules, representatives from some firms bemoaned.

Workers were informed on Monday morning to pause operations and await further notice.

The fast-flowing water has spilled onto National Highway 1 directly in front of the industrial park.

Traffic police are actively managing vehicles in the area to ensure safety.

Widespread flooding across Khanh Hoa

Nguyen Trong Chanh, deputy director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment, on Monday morning signed a quick report on damage caused by heavy rain in the province.

According to the report, downpours have battered the province over the past 24 hours, with rainfall reaching between 100 and 250 mm.

Some areas received over 390 mm of rain.

The water levels on Cai Nha Trang and Cai Phan Rang Rivers reached alert levels 2 and 3.

The heavy rain also triggered fatal landslides in the province.

A landslide on Sunday night struck a Phuong Trang passenger bus traveling from Lam Dong Province to Khanh Hoa Province on National Highway 27C near Khanh Le Pass in Nam Khanh Vinh Commune, killing six people and injuring 19.

Another landslide near Khanh Son Pass buried a small shelter, leaving one dead and one injured, at around 8:30 pm on Sunday.

Urban areas in the province experienced localized flooding, with water levels ranging from 0.2 to 0.3 meters.

Flooding also affected transport infrastructure. A section of the railway in Nam Cam Ranh Commune experienced waterlogging and landslides, temporarily halting train traffic.

Authorities have since repaired the track, allowing trains to resume normal service.
