Heavy rain, high tides expected in Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow

According to the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Station, rainfall will increase in both coverage and intensity across southern Vietnam, including the city.

More than half of the region could experience rain, with some areas likely to receive heavy downpours.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied by dangerous weather conditions, including lightning, strong wind gusts, whirlwinds and hail.

Forecasters expect rainfall to decrease on Monday next week as a stronger northeast monsoon weakens the atmospheric disturbances responsible for the rain.

At the same time, water levels on the Saigon River are rising due to a high-tide cycle.

Peak tides are forecast between Monday and Wednesday.

At Phu An and Nha Be stations, water levels are expected to reach 1.65-1.70 meters, approximately 0.05-0.10 meters above Level 3.

The weather agency warned that heavy rain combined with high tides could cause flooding in low-lying riverside and coastal areas, disrupt traffic and slow drainage.

Marine conditions are also expected to remain unfavorable.

Offshore waters near Ho Chi Minh City will experience northeast winds of 29-49 kph, with gusts reaching 50-74 kph. Wave heights are forecast at 1.5-2.5 meters, with scattered thunderstorms possible.

The agency also cautioned about strong offshore currents during falling tides, which may pose risks to maritime activities and beach tourism.
