Considered one of Hervé Koubi’s most celebrated works, “What the Day Owes to the Night” has captivated audiences on prestigious international stages through its powerful movement language, striking visual aesthetics and rich cultural depth.

Inspired by the novel of the same name by Yasmina Khadra, the production offers a unique theatrical experience for audiences interested in contemporary dance, hip-hop and dynamic forms of physical expression.

The work boldly blends acrobatics, gymnastics, b-boying, hip-hop, contemporary dance and ballet, performed by 14 talented dancers, most of whom come from hip-hop and street dance backgrounds.

Under Hervé Koubi’s direction, the spirit of street dance is transformed into a refined contemporary movement language that explores universal themes such as identity, cultural heritage, and cross-cultural encounters.

Trained at the world-renowned Rosella Hightower School of Dance in Cannes, Koubi is known for his innovative, humanistic approach and his ability to bring together multiple aesthetic traditions within a single performance space.

He has developed a distinctive choreographic language shaped by the intersection of contemporary dance and urban culture.

Recognized for his broad international influence and significant contributions to the evolution of contemporary dance, Hervé Koubi was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) by the French Minister of Culture in 2015.

The honor recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting and advancing French arts and culture worldwide.
