E10 is a gasoline blend containing 10 percent ethanol mixed with mineral gasoline, used as an alternative to conventional mineral fuels.
The move comes as PVOIL announced it had completed preparations for the nationwide roll-out of E10 biofuel beginning on the same day.
According to the company, PVOil Saigon has been selling E10 RON 95-III since April and is gradually transitioning its fuel portfolio entirely toward biofuel products.
Under its plan, sales of RON 95-III gasoline will officially cease on Friday to facilitate the transition process.
During the shift period, customers and business partners experiencing issues are advised to contact the company’s business division for support.
Currently, RON 95 gasoline in Vietnam is primarily distributed under two standards: RON 95-III and RON 95-V, with the latter complying with Euro 5 emissions standards and aligning with Vietnam’s roadmap for stricter vehicle emissions regulations.
Alongside adjustments to its fuel product structure, PVOIL has accelerated the consumption of E10 gasoline, which is expected to help reduce emissions and promote the use of biofuels in line with the government's strategy.
PVOIL first launched pilot sales of E10 RON95 in Hanoi and Hai Phong on August 1, 2025, before expanding distribution to central and southern provinces.
As of April this year, as many as 558 petrol stations within PVOIL’s nationwide network of nearly 1,000 fuel stations had begun selling E10 biofuel.
The firm said the pilot phase was designed to evaluate fuel quality, operational compatibility, and consumer response.
Results showed the product met technical standards, operated stably in vehicles, and received positive initial feedback from the market.
To prepare for large-scale commercialization, PVOIL invested in upgrading blending systems at its fuel depots, including storage tanks, pipelines, and import-export infrastructure.
The company currently has 13 depots capable of blending E10 gasoline.
PVOIL has also converted part or all of its E5 blending infrastructure to support E10 production, while upgrading ethanol storage systems and restructuring tank capacity to meet expected nationwide demand.
The E5 is a blend of five percent ethanol and 95 percent gasoline.
Le Trung Hung, deputy general director of PVOIL, said the corporation had proactively secured all necessary conditions for the E10 roll-out, including raw material supplies, blending systems, storage facilities, and distribution networks.
PVOIL has upgraded infrastructure and finalized technical procedures to ensure the safe and efficient distribution of E10 gasoline while meeting market demand and supporting the government’s biofuel development strategy, he said.
According to PVOIL, the base gasoline used for E10 blending is sourced from Vietnam’s two domestic refineries, Nghi Son Refinery and Dung Quat Refinery.
Ethanol supplies are sourced from both domestic producers and imports from markets including the United States, Brazil, and several other countries.
During the initial roll-out phase, PVOIL would continue supplying both RON95 gasoline and E10 products in parallel to provide customers with more choices while intensifying communications about the transition toward biofuels.
PVOIL is currently one of Vietnam’s largest fuel distributors, operating a nationwide retail network of nearly 1,000 filling stations.
The company’s decision to discontinue RON 95-III sales and accelerate E10 roll-out is seen as a significant step in Vietnam’s broader fuel transition roadmap.
