The agreement was signed between the Ho Chi Minh City Management Board for Protection and Special-Use Forests and Can Gio Tourism Urban JSC.

The project, approved by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on March 13, covers ecotourism, resort, and recreation development in the Can Gio protected forest through 2030.

Nguyen Toan Thang, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment, said the project aims to make more effective use of the forest’s natural resources and landscape while generating additional funding for forest management and biodiversity conservation.

The project is also expected to improve local livelihoods and attract investment in sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism.

Thang added that the project supports the city’s strategy of promoting the value of its forests while advancing green and sustainable economic development.

At the ceremony on Monday, Can Gio Tourism Urban JSC said it would develop a controlled ecotourism model focused on balancing nature conservation, ecosystem restoration, environmental education, and local economic development rather than conventional tourism.

The company said it would comply with regulations on forestry, land use, construction, environmental protection, and biodiversity conservation, while prioritizing renewable energy and proper waste and wastewater treatment.

It will also work with forest authorities on forest protection, fire prevention, tourism monitoring, and periodic reporting, while encouraging visitors to reduce plastic waste.

The company also said it would prioritize local hiring and create opportunities for forest-dependent communities to participate in tourism services.

The project will also promote Can Gio’s traditional culture, local cuisine, the history of the Rung Sac forest, and the area’s cultural identity.
