The agency was established through the reorganization and dissolution of 11 city-level media organizations.
Eight media outlets ceased operations as part of the restructuring, including Nguoi Lao Dong (Laborer) newspaper, Phu Nu TPHCM (Ho Chi Minh City Women) newspaper, Phap Luat TPHCM (Ho Chi Minh City Law) newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Education magazine, Tourism Magazine of Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon Entrepreneur magazine, The Saigon Times magazine, and Ho Chi Minh City Journal of Science.
The final editions of publications issued by the dissolved media organizations were published on June 30.
Three major media organizations were reorganized and retained as the core units of the new agency: Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV), and Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
The Ho Chi Minh City Press and Radio-Television Agency is a public unit under the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
It serves as the official media organ of the city's Party organization and government, while also serving the people of Ho Chi Minh City as a communication bridge and public forum.
The agency comprises eight affiliated units: four functional units, the Training and Media Service Center, and three core media outlets—Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper, Tuoi Tre Online newspaper, and HTV.
Sai Gon Giai Phong will continue focusing on news coverage, public information and policy communication while expanding in-depth reporting on the economy, tourism, culture, education, and science.
Tuoi Tre Online will focus on developing digital news products, data journalism, digital media, and multimedia content across online platforms.
Meanwhile, HTV will continue producing radio and television programs while expanding multi-platform content services.
As part of the media restructuring plan, Tuoi Tre Online has been receiving, managing, and operating digital data systems from the seven dissolved media organizations since 12:00 am on July 1.
Tuoi Tre Online has taken over the websites, social media channels, and digital data assets of Nguoi Lao Dong, Phap Luat, Phu Nu, Tourism Magazine of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Journal of Science, Ho Chi Minh City Education, and The Saigon Times.
When readers access the former media outlets' websites, they will be automatically redirected to the corresponding content under Tuoi Tre Online's domain.
Through the integration of these digital platforms, Tuoi Tre Online aims to preserve and build upon the information resources, digital archives, and readership communities developed by the former media organizations over many years.
The initiative is expected to contribute to the creation of a unified and modern digital media ecosystem capable of delivering timely, reliable, and multi-platform information services to the public.
