He affirmed that the city always sees SCG (Siam Cement Group) as a strategic partner.
SCG is currently one of the largest Thai investors in Vietnam, with a total capital investment of US$7.1 billion.
The group operates 28 companies and over 50 manufacturing facilities in key sectors such as petrochemicals, packaging, cement, building materials, distribution, and logistics.
The city’s Party chief noted that after being merged with Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provinces, new Ho Chi Minh City has significantly expanded its economic scale and investment potential, offering new opportunities to foreign investors, particularly SCG Vietnam.
Under the national merger strategy, which took effect on July 1, new Ho Chi Minh City was formed by combining the old city with Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

He urged SCG to consider diversifying its investments into green sectors, particularly renewable energy, an area prioritized by both the city and Vietnam as part of their broader green development agenda.
Incentives are currently available for projects in renewable energy, he added.
In response, Patiparnpreechavud reaffirmed SCG’s confidence in Vietnam’s and Ho Chi Minh City’s growth potential.
He highlighted sustainable, green economic development as a core direction of the group's strategy, expressing SCG’s desire to be a key partner to the city in this transition.
SCG Vietnam also voiced hopes for continued support from city authorities as it navigates ongoing projects, including the Long Son petrochemical complex and a packaging paper mill in My Phuoc 3 Industrial Park.
Secretary Quang said that after the city completed the administrative restructuring, investment procedures would become more streamlined.
He instructed the municipal People’s Committee to provide timely assistance to help resolve SCG’s difficulties and accelerate project progress.
