According to the report sent to the municipal People's Committee, the wharf is currently in poor condition and lies directly in the path of the new footbridge’s access ramp.
Besides, the wharf’s existence is not in line with the city's 1/2,000 scale zoning plan.
The pedestrian bridge project, funded by dairy producer Nutifood, is expected to connect Bach Dang Wharf Park in downtown Ho Chi Minh City with the riverside park in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
Work on the project began in March and is scheduled for completion before April 30, 2026.
Dismantling the wharf is estimated to cost nearly VND1.8 billion (US$68,700), covered by Nutifood.
The two structures to be relocated include the Phu An automatic water environment monitoring station under the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment, not yet operational, and the Phu An hydro-meteorological station, managed by the southern regional hydro-meteorological center.

The monitoring station might be relocated to the area near Wharf No. 4, close to the historic Thu Ngu Flagpole.
The footbridge over the Saigon River will be 261 meters long and between six and 11 meters wide, with a 187-meter main span, carrying a price tag of VND1 trillion ($39 million).
Its design was inspired by the nipa palm leaf, a plant associated with the culture of the southern riverine region.
