The Hang Xanh Traffic Police Unit said the violations were recorded over two mornings using surveillance cameras, with notices sent to vehicle owners under Vietnam's traffic enforcement regulations.

Police said the camera-based enforcement targeted congested sections of the two streets, where motorcycle use on sidewalks has increased.

Under a government decree that took effect in January, motorcyclists caught riding on sidewalks can be fined between VND4 million (US$152) and VND6 million ($228) and face a two-point deduction from their 12-point driver's licenses.

Authorities said monitoring through camera systems would continue on major roads in the ward.
