According to the municipal police department, Ho Chi Minh City continues to serve as Vietnam’s largest economic, financial, industrial and service hub, accounting for more than 23.5 percent of national GDP.

Average GRDP per capita has exceeded US$8,900, about 1.7 times the national average, while the digital economy now contributes more than 25 percent of the city’s GRDP.

City police said maintaining political stability and social order has played a key role in supporting socio-economic growth, foreign relations and the city’s overall development, efforts that have been recognized by the Vietnamese Party and state leaders as well as the public.

Authorities said that 2026 will see a series of important political events, including the 14th National Party Congress and elections for the country’s law-making National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels, placing heightened demands on security and public order.

At the ceremony, Lieutenant General Mai Hoang ordered all police units to intensify patrols and coordinated operations to prevent and suppress crime, particularly street crime, and to protect key targets and infrastructure.

He underlined the importance of closely monitoring security developments, promptly detecting and neutralizing hostile or disruptive activities, and effectively responding to both traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

The southern metropolis’ police chief emphasized that people must remain at the center of all crime prevention efforts, calling on police forces to work closely with local authorities and communities.

In addition, city police were asked to promptly commend and reward teams and individuals with outstanding achievements in crime prevention and public safety.

The high-intensity campaign will run from December 15 to March 16 next year, with police units in all 168 wards, communes and special administrative areas citywide conducting simultaneous operations.
