Ho Chi Minh City reports no serious traffic congestion in first half of 2025

The current construction department is also in charge of transport aspects after merging with the Department of Transport. 

Deputy director Nguyen Thanh Loi reported only one notable instance of congestion due to a three-vehicle collision during rush hour on National Highway 1 in Thu Duc City, affecting circulation from Song Than Overpass to Binh Phuoc Intersection.

The city’s traffic police unit promptly responded to put the situation under control.

From January to June, public passenger transport carried approximately 267.4 million trips, a 10-percent increase compared with the same period in 2024.

Bus operation reached 45.9 million trips, up 5.8 percent, while metro line No. 1 connecting Ben Thanh Station in District 1 and Suoi Tien Coach Station in Thu Duc City carried nearly 10 million passengers.

The department said several initiatives have been implemented, including expansion of green bus services, improvements in driver and attendant quality, incentives for cashless public transport payments, and introduction of a mobile app for route planning.

Data released by the department show that there were 547 traffic accidents during the period, resulting in 234 deaths and 285 injuries.

These figures represent a reduction of 260 accidents and 249 injuries compared to the same period last year.

The department added that Ho Chi Minh City originally had three traffic accident ‘black spots’ and has successfully removed two of them.
