Nguyen Van Thu, deputy director of the company’s Gia Dinh Urban Environment Branch, said the unit had worked with the employee after images circulated showing that person dumping trash into the canal.

According to the branch, two sanitation workers were assigned to clean 26-3 Street along the canal on the evenings of April 20 and April 21.

One worker swept the garbage while another worker, identified as N.M.P., collected it.

Instead of placing the waste into a collection bin, P. repeatedly dumped the garbage into the canal, the branch said.

In P.’s written statement cited by the company, the worker admitted the incident and said he became tired during work and failed to control his actions.

Thu said the employee acknowledged the violation had affected the reputation of his colleagues, the branch, and the company, pledging not to repeat the offense.

The branch said it had reminded all employees to strengthen responsibility in environmental sanitation work and imposed disciplinary measures on the worker involved.

“This was an isolated incident caused by the irresponsibility of one individual,” Thu said, while apologizing to city residents.

“We deeply regret the matter and will draw lessons regarding supervision and daily monitoring.”

The ward said it would continue clean-up campaigns and strengthen enforcement against illegal dumping violations.
