Ho Chi Minh City has stepped up efforts to attract international investment in emerging industries, including artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and green technology, through a series of investment promotion activities held in China.

A delegation led by Nguyen Loc Ha, standing vice-chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, attended the 2026 Summer Davos forum, known as the World Economic Forum’s 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, in Dalian, China.

The trip, which took place from June 22 to 26, also featured a range of investment promotion and international cooperation events.

The visit aimed to strengthen partnerships in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and green transition, while expanding the city's engagement with the global network of innovation leaders.

These efforts are expected to support Ho Chi Minh City's ambition of achieving double-digit economic growth.

During the trip, the city hosted five seminars and investment forums focusing on research and development, technology commercialization, international finance, hi-tech agriculture, smart manufacturing and global value chains.

The events attracted nearly 1,000 participants.

Notably, the Ho Chi Minh City Investment Cooperation Forum was aimed at drawing international investment in strategic technology sectors, including AI, semiconductors, data centers, digital transformation and green technology.

Nine cooperation initiatives between organizations and firms from Ho Chi Minh City and China were announced during the event.

The agreements cover a broad range of sectors, including AI, autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation, hi-tech healthcare, smart agriculture and fisheries, smart cities, green materials, robotics and automation, digital transformation, innovation and innovation-focused finance.

Addressing the forum, Ha said the city is not only seeking new investment projects but also aims to work with international partners to create new drivers of economic growth and expand opportunities for collaboration.

During the visit, the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City received several cooperation proposals from major corporations.

Sunwah, Exabyte, Inspur Smart Technology, BBMG Corporation and TOJOY pledged to collaborate on projects involving smart agriculture and fisheries, smart cities, green materials, AI, robotics and the development of the city's innovation ecosystem.

Ho Chi Minh City to pilot dockless e-bikes to connect with metro line No. 1

The southern metropolis plans to launch a pilot public electric bicycle service to improve first- and last-mile connectivity for metro line No. 1, which runs between Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien Coach Station.

The project, proposed by the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, introduces Vietnam's first controlled dockless electric bicycle model.

Using positioning technology, the system is designed to prevent indiscriminate parking while improving integration with public transport.

The initiative will be led by the city's Public Transport Management Center, with the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution serving as coordinator.

Sunwah Loco Company, a joint venture between the Sunwah Group and Hong Kong-based Locolla, will act as the project investor, providing the technology platform, electric bicycles and operational solutions.
