The projects include the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway, metro line No. 1 from Binh Duong New City to Suoi Tien, metro line No. 2 from Thu Dau Mot to Ho Chi Minh City, and metro line No. 6’s phase one from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Phu Huu.
Together, they represent a major step toward the city’s target of completing 200 kilometers of metro by 2030.
The 48-kilometer Thu Thiem-Long Thanh line is being studied by Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment JSC and is scheduled to get off the ground in September, connecting Thu Thiem Station in Ho Chi Minh City with Cam Duong depot in Dong Nai City.
For the remaining three lines, the city’s Management Authority for Urban Railways said it is working with relevant agencies to speed up investment preparations and contractor selection for feasibility studies and Front-End Engineering Design work.
Among them, metro line No. 1 from Binh Duong New City to Suoi Tien will run 32 kilometers, including a 3.4-kilometer depot link, with 19 elevated stations.
Metro line No. 2 from Thu Dau Mot to Ho Chi Minh City will cover 35 kilometers, with 20 kilometers of elevated sections and 15 kilometers of underground tracks, ending at Tao Dan Station where it will connect with the Ben Thanh-Tham Luong section of metro line No. 2.
Phase one of metro line No. 6 will span 23 kilometers, linking Tan Son Nhat Airport’s three terminals with Phu Huu, and connecting to the planned Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway.
The Politburo’s Resolution 9 sets a goal for Ho Chi Minh City to complete about 200 kilometers of metro by 2030 and achieve full urban rail connectivity by 2045.
Since late last year, the city has commenced work on three metro and railway projects totaling 71.5 kilometers.
Authorities said the next four projects, with a combined length of 138.8 kilometers, will be critical to meeting the 200-kilometer milestone within the next four years.
