The project, managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Management Authority for Urban Railways, will add eight outdoor elevators connected to pedestrian bridges at the Tan Cang, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai, Saigon High-Tech Park and Vietnam National University stations.
Each elevator will have a capacity of 1,000 kilograms and two stops.
Most will be built on the right side of the metro line along Vo Nguyen Giap Boulevard, formerly Hanoi Highway, while the elevator at Tan Cang Station will be located on the left side of the line on Nguyen Huu Canh Street.
The works will also include covered walkways with railings and waiting areas linking to the elevators.
City officials said the project aims to improve safety and convenience for metro passengers and encourage greater use of public transport.
The elevators are expected to cost nearly VND53.5 billion (US$2 million) and be completed by the end of 2025.
Metro line No. 1, the city's first urban railway, stretches nearly 20 km between Ben Thanh Market in central Ho Chi Minh City and Suoi Tien Coach Station.
It opened for commercial service in December 2024 after more than a decade of construction.
