Responding to a call from the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the congress presidium urged participants to make donations to support victims of prolonged heavy rains and severe flooding.
The donation drive was held at the opening session of the congress at the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) at 31 Le Duan Street in Saigon Ward.
The congress organizing committee said attendees raised a total of VND16.5 million, or nearly $630, noting that flood-affected residents are in urgent need of support to recover and stabilize their lives.
The association said the funds will be transferred to HUFO for contribution to the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Fatherland Front’s relief fund supporting people affected by natural disasters.
Reporting on the association’s performance during the 2020-25 term, its deputy chairwoman Ho Thi Trinh Anh said the association has actively promoted Vietnam-India ties through cultural exchanges and people-to-people diplomacy over the past five years.
The association has also engaged in community support efforts, including mobilizing medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic and organizing relief assistance for victims of natural disasters in central Vietnam.
Building on achievements over the past years and supported by the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership, the association has strengthened its foundation for further development, Anh said.
At the congress, a new 47-member executive committee was elected, including a 19-member standing board.
Huynh Thanh Lap was re-elected chairman of the association for the 2025-30 term.
