Ho Chi Minh City’s Vung Tau coastal revamp nears completion ahead of National Day holiday

Vung Tau is now administratively part of Ho Chi Minh City, following a recent government merger of Ba Ria–Vung Tau Province.

The upgrade of Bai Sau, a popular beach destination in Vung Tau, is part of a public investment initiative totaling nearly VND1.1 trillion (US$42 million). 

The project aims to enhance the area's appeal to both tourists and local residents, transforming the site into a high-end public space.

Much of the beachfront of Bai Sau has been cleared of hotels, restaurants, and service facilities that previously obstructed ocean views. 

The beach is now designed as a public recreational area accessible to all.

Along Thuy Van Street—stretching from Hoang Hoa Tham to Nguyen An Ninh Streets intersection—rows of four-meter-tall date palm trees have been planted. 

Other landscaped sections feature crape myrtle, monkeypod, cassia javanica, and coconut trees. 

In total, nearly 1,800 trees are being planted across the project site.

The redesigned park area includes nearly 11,000 square meters of flower beds and green space, planted with tropical species such as French jasmine and bougainvillea. 

Stone seating blocks are installed along walkways to provide rest stops and visual accents.

Architectural highlights include shell-shaped pavilions and lifeguard towers along the beach. 

A central feature, the Tam Thang Tower, is under final construction and expected to be completed by early September. 

A pedestrian underpass beneath Thuy Van Street has also been installed and is awaiting final clearance for public use.

Project managers say the main public-facing components of the redevelopment will be operational in time for the upcoming four-day holiday, when large crowds are expected to gather for National Day celebrations.
