Husband dead as married couple struck by lightning while gardening in Vietnam

Lightning killed a 46-year-old man on the spot and left his wife badly injured when they were gardening in Quang Binh Province, located in north-central Vietnam, confirmed a local official on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place at around 1:30 pm the same day in Hung Trach Commune, Bo Trach District, according to Le Ngoc Son, chairman of the commune’s administration.

It was raining while H.D.S. and his wife, N.T.M, 44, both hailing from the commune, were working in their earpod wattle garden.

Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck both of them.

Local residents found the husband dead at the scene and rushed his wife to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Hung Trach has reported multiple fatal lightning strikes in the past few years.

In 2017, a lightning strike claimed the lives of three gravediggers.

Local authorities have repeatedly warned about risks of deadly lightning strikes, but lightning-induced incidents still happen in the area.
