The Vietnam Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security has issued a decision to temporarily suspend an immigration officer at Phu Quoc International Airport off the coast of Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam for tearing a Taiwanese tourist's boarding pass on May 13.

The department will later review the responsibility of each individual involved and handle them in accordance with regulations.

Previously, after a six-day-five-night trip in Phu Quoc City, a family of four Taiwanese tourists arrived at Phu Quoc International Airport on May 13 to return home.

However, upon reaching the boarding gate, an officer believed to be from the immigration unit acted in an impolite manner and demanded that each member of the family, including two young children, complete the immigration procedures separately.

After having to wait in line for a long time, the Taiwanese family expressed their frustration, at which point H.D., an immigration officer at the airport, tore the boarding pass of one of the two young children.

Although the situation was resolved and the boarding pass was reissued, the officer's behavior left a negative impression on the visitors.

Following the incident, representatives from Phu Quoc Airport's immigration office, through the relevant tour company, issued an apology to the Taiwanese family.

They acknowledged the apology but chose not to remove a social media post about the incident.

D., the immigration officer involved, has extended his apologies to the Taiwanese family but has not yet received a reply, according to a source of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
