At the ministry's regular press briefing, spokesperson Pham Thu Hang updated the media on international assessments of Vietnam's economic growth in 2025 and forecasts for the year ahead, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.

Hang said Vietnam experienced a challenging year marked by global instability, sluggish worldwide economic growth, and unprecedented extreme natural disasters at home.

Despite these pressures, the country emerged as a bright spot for macroeconomic stability and economic growth, which she attributed to timely, decisive, and effective leadership by the Vietnamese Party and government.

Vietnam's socio-economic performance in 2025 surpassed all 15 targets set for the year.

Macroeconomic fundamentals remained stable, inflation was kept under control, growth stayed at a high level, and key economic balances were maintained.

Hang cited remarks by Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, delivered at a meeting between Le Hoai Trung, secretary of Vietnam’s Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and foreign diplomatic missions in the country.

Tamesis said Vietnam's economy reached an estimated size of about US$514 billion in 2025, ranking 32nd globally.

Average income per capita rose to $5,026, an increase of $326 year on year, placing Vietnam in the upper-middle-income group.

Total import-export turnover exceeded $930 billion, positioning Vietnam among the world's top 20 trading nations.

These achievements have been widely recognized and positively assessed by international partners, Hang said.

Many economic researchers, foreign investors, and international institutions view Vietnam as one of the most notable bright spots amid a generally gloomy global economic landscape in 2025.

She added that the International Monetary Fund ranked Vietnam among the world's top 10 fastest-growing economies.

International assessments have also highlighted Vietnam's strong performance in traditional growth drivers such as trade, investment, and tourism, alongside the emergence of new growth engines including science and technology, digital transformation, and innovative development models.

Together, these factors are seen as forming a solid foundation for the country's medium- and long-term development.

International tourism was also cited as a standout area.

In 2025, Vietnam welcomed a record-breaking number of international visitors, with arrivals exceeding 20 million.

Looking ahead, Hang said Vietnam will continue to focus on key priorities.

These include further improving institutions and legal frameworks to ensure transparency, consistency, and fairness; continuing reforms of the state administrative apparatus; and promoting economic growth while maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, and safeguarding major economic balances.

She added that Vietnam aims to build a new growth model driven primarily by science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, while advancing strategic infrastructure projects, developing high-quality human resources, improving living standards, and ensuring security and social welfare.
