Investigation underway after live maggots found in hamburger from major Da Nang bakery

The current Da Nang City is a merger of the former Da Nang City and neighboring Quang Nam Province, effective from July 1, as part of a recent major administrative restructuring in which Vietnam’s total number of provinces and cities was reduced to 34 from 63.

The administrative restructuring also resulted in local administrations being divided into provinces/cities and wards/communes.

As a result, An Hai Ward was established by merging Phuoc My, An Hai Bac, An Hai Nam Wards in the erstwhile Da Nang City.

Previously, a video circulated on social media showing a partially eaten hamburger with maggots crawling inside.

The video clearly shows maggots around a slice of tomato in the hamburger. 

A voice in the video could be heard saying, “It’s in the tomato or the meat, not old bread — that means you have eaten maggots.”

According to the person who recorded the video, the hamburger was purchased from B.H. bakery on Nguyen Van Thoai Street in An Hai Ward, Da Nang on Wednesday morning.

A representative of the Da Nang Food Safety Management Board told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that they had received the report and were working with An Hai Ward authorities to verify the tourist’s complaint.

On the same day, An Hai Ward’s task force visited the bakery in question, reviewed the bakery's business license and food safety certificates, and inspected food preparation and storage areas and sample retention facilities.

An Hai Ward authorities stated that they would contact the individual who reported the issue to clarify the situation and review surveillance footage to determine the exact time of the incident.

B.H. is a well-known bakery in Da Nang, with multiple branches throughout the city.
