Vietnam has considered Japan one of its most important cooperative partners, according to State President Tran Dai Quang.

The Vietnamese head of state convened a friendly meeting with Tsutomu Takebe, special advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, on Thursday afternoon at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, part of the latter’s ongoing visit to Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Takebe congratulated President Quang on his new position as a state leader during their talks.

The Japanese official updated the Vietnamese president on the process of the project on the Japanese-Vietnamese University, saying that the institution will be officially put into operation on September 9, opening the school’s first master’s program.

President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Nikai Toshihiro has also proposed the establishment of a joint center for coping with climate change, which will be managed by the university, Takebe added.

The two parties agreed that there have been many positive developments in the relationship between the Japanese and Vietnamese governments and peoples since its formation in 1973.

The Vietnamese state and people have great respect for the relation with their Japanese counterparts, as Tokyo is one of Hanoi’s most important cooperative partners in its foreign policy, the Vietnam News Agency quoted President Quang as saying.

Quang hoped that Japan would continue sharing with Vietnam its knowledge and experience in agriculture, measures to respond to consequences brought about by climate change, and infrastructural development, which will contribute to the latter’s national development.

The Vietnamese head of state highly regarded the ties between the two governments and valued the significance of cultural and people exchanges in the enhancement of political trust and friendship between the two nations.

The Southeast Asian country will always welcome and provide favorable conditions for the organization of Japanese festivals in Vietnam, according to President Quang.
