Japan urges OpenAI to address copyright issues
TOKYO -- Japan's Cabinet Office has urged U.S. artificial intelligence giant OpenAI to take measures to prevent copyright infringement through its Sora 2 video generation tool, Minoru Kiuchi, minister for intellectual property strategy, said Friday.

The government agency made the request to OpenAI on Monday, according to Kiuchi.
"We will continue to respond appropriately to concerns about intellectual property rights, taking into account the situation of businesses that use AI," Kiuchi told a press conference.
Sora 2 can generate high-definition videos with audio simply by providing text instructions.
Shortly after its release on September 30, however, OpenAI faced a backlash over copyright issues, as numerous videos featuring popular animated characters were uploaded without permission.
OpenAI has said it will take preventive measures.
