Infections have been detected at several early childhood education facilities, including Binh Minh Kindergarten in Hai Chau Ward, Nha Co Nang Childcare Group in Hoa Xuan Ward, Thuy Ha Nursery in Hoi An Tay Ward, Dien Tien Kindergarten in Dien Ban Bac Commune, and Than Dong Viet Kindergarten in Hai Chau Ward, according to local health authorities.
Additional scattered clusters have also been found in Cam Le, Hai Chau, Ngu Hanh Son, and Hoa Xuan Wards.
Data from the city’s Center for Disease Control indicated that Da Nang recorded 215 new HFMD cases between April 6 and 12, double the figure from the previous week and the highest weekly total since the start of the year.
Since January, the city has logged 803 cases, also doubling the number reported during the same period in 2025.
The department of tropical medicine at the Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children reported a three- to five-fold increase in visits among HFMD child patients compared to prior weeks.
On average, 50 to 100 children are examined daily, with around 20 requiring hospitalization.
Dr. Nguyen Hai Thinh, head of the department, warned that HFMD in the city is entering its annual peak period.
Hot and humid weather conditions are creating an ideal environment for the virus to spread.
The doctor said that inadequate hygiene practices significantly heighten the risk of outbreaks, particularly in childcare settings.
The municipal Department of Health has launched inspections of HFMD prevention and control measures, along with other infectious disease responses, across multiple wards and communes.
The inspections focus on early detection, HFMD case management, and ensuring sufficient supplies of medical materials and disinfectants.
Inspection teams have conducted on-site reviews at kindergartens and childcare centers to assess the implementation of preventive measures, aiming to promptly address shortcomings and reduce the risk of wider community transmission.
Parents are advised to closely monitor their children’s health, maintain strict personal and environmental hygiene, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms are suspected to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment.
