The first patient, a 34-year-old Vietnamese woman, fainted and suffered limb convulsions after running about four kilometers at Thong Nhat Stadium.

She was diagnosed with an exercise-induced electrolyte imbalance.

After oxygen therapy and electrolyte replacement, she regained full consciousness and stable vital signs.

The second case involved a 33-year-old South Korean man who experienced low blood pressure and respiratory failure after running roughly three kilometers.

Rapid emergency care, including oxygen, intravenous fluids, blood tests, and an electrocardiogram revealed respiratory distress and cardiac muscle injury indicated by elevated enzymes.

His condition improved, and he was admitted for further treatment.

Emergency physician Nguyen Kim Long said the quick coordination of the night-shift team ensured both patients were stabilized without lasting complications.

Long warned that hidden electrolyte, blood-pressure and cardiac issues can endanger even seemingly healthy athletes.

The doctor advised runners to undergo pre-race screening—blood pressure, electrocardiogram, blood counts, electrolyte panels, liver and kidney function—and to eat well, rest, hydrate with electrolytes, avoid alcohol or stimulants, warm up properly, wear suitable shoes, and skip events when ill, fatigued or on diuretics.

“Get regular check-ups, especially before high-intensity activities," Long said.

"If you feel unusual fatigue, chest pain or dizziness, seek medical help immediately or call 115."
