La Son-Hoa Lien expressway to open to 4-lane traffic in central Vietnam this month

The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board said on Monday that the project had completed most of its major construction works.

The project is widening the expressway from two lanes to four lanes.

Upon completion, the expanded route will have a 22-meter-wide road surface and a design speed of 60-80 kilometers per hour, according to the project management board.

Contractors are completing the remaining works ahead of the planned opening, said Tran Duc Hiep, executive director of the La Son-Hoa Lien expressway expansion project.

The road surface has been widened to four lanes along the route.

Contractors have completed asphalt paving along the entire route, while road markings, median barriers, anti-glare screens and guardrails have been installed on many sections.

The project also includes building new bridge structures and widening 50 existing bridges to accommodate four lanes.

Remaining works include installing median barriers, anti-glare screens and traffic signs, completing the intelligent transportation system, repairing damaged road surfaces, replacing old guardrails and finishing road markings, Hiep said.

"The remaining work mainly involves traffic safety facilities such as guardrails and anti-glare screens," Hiep said.

"We are focusing on completing them and expect to finish by the end of August."

The project management board is also carrying out work at several landslide-prone sections affected by storms in 2025.

Those sections are slated for completion in December 2026, according to the board.
