Large potholes appear on national highway after floodwater recedes in north-central Vietnam

Many large potholes appeared on a section of National Highway No. 1 in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam after floodwater receded in the locality this week.

Along the section of National Highway No. 1 running from Thach Ha District to Can Loc District, the road surface was damaged and filled with big potholes, posing a high risk of traffic accidents.

On the part of Viet Tien Commune, Thach Ha District, the damage was so serious that local authorities had to set up barriers and a warning sign to alert commuters.

Workers were tasked with patching up the road surface as a temporary measure on Tuesday morning.

Ha Tinh as well as several other north-central provinces have been struck by serious and prolonged flooding in the past few days.

The inundation was a result of torrential rains brought about by the circulation of Storm Noru, which hit the country last week.

Along National Highway No. 1 in Ha Tinh, the most serious flooding was recorded in Xuan Lam Commune, Nghi Xuan District, with floodwater reaching about 40 centimeters high.

The flooding on the part of the highway began last Friday and the water did not recede until Tuesday morning.

During this period, local authorities banned vehicles from traveling on this section and guided commuters to take the bypass in Hong Linh Town.
