An equal amount of genuine rhino horn is estimated at US$1.72 million

Authorities at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City detected a 93kg shipment suspected to be rhino horns at a warehouse within the airport area on Tuesday morning.

There have yet been official results of the assessment of the items in the shipment.

According to officials, the large amount of alleged rhino horn was in transit from Africa before being transported to some Asian countries.

This amount of genuine rhino horn is estimated to be worth VND40 billion (US$1.72 million).

Vietnam’s laws currently stipulate that rhino horn is prohibited for import into the country since the rhino is on the list of wild animals in need of protection, included in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
