The commemorative ceremonies took place at the President Ho Chi Minh Statue Park in District 1 and at the Ho Chi Minh Museum branch in the city.
The defense ministry delegation was led by Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defense, while the city's delegation was headed by Nguyen Thanh Nghi, standing deputy secretary of the municipal Party Committee.
These ceremonies were part of a national-level scientific conference celebrating Reunification Day, scheduled to be held in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday, with the theme 'The Great Victory in Spring 1975 – The Power of Will for the Country's Reunification and Aspiration for Peace.'
At the President Ho Chi Minh Statue Park, delegates observed a moment of silence, expressing profound gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh – a national liberation hero, a brilliant leader of the Party and people, and an outstanding cultural figure of Vietnam.
President Ho Chi Minh, who passed away in 1969 at the age of 79, dedicated his entire life to the revolutionary cause, bringing independence and freedom to the nation and happiness to its people.
Earlier, the delegations had also offered incense and flowers in remembrance of the late leader at the Ho Chi Minh Museum branch in the city.
These meaningful activities mark the beginning of a series of key events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Great Spring Victory of 1975 – a pivotal milestone in modern Vietnamese history.
This victory affirmed the nation's resilient will, profound unity, and enduring aspiration for peace and reunification under the visionary leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.
Also part of the Reunification Day celebrations, a delegation led by Major General Tran Vinh Ngoc, Political Commissar of Military Region 7, visited and presented gifts to five exemplary policy families in the city on the same day.
These families include Heroes of the People's Armed Forces and veterans who directly participated in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, which led to the liberation of southern Vietnam on April 30, 1975, resulting in the country's reunification.
