On Thursday, the investor of the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park 3 (VSIP 3) in Ho Chi Minh City announced a direct solar power purchase agreement with Denmark's LEGO Group for its factory located in the park.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and representatives from Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and related agencies.
The LEGO factory will be supplied with renewable energy from rooftop solar panels installed by the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park Joint Venture Company.
Approximately 12,400 solar panels have been installed on the factory's buildings, covering about 75 percent of its energy needs during the first five years of operation.
Other agreements are being developed to purchase additional off-site renewable energy to achieve the goal of operating entirely on renewable energy.
Solar energy will be transmitted to the factory through an industrial battery storage system to ensure consistent, reliable, and safe power supply for production.
Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen, general manager of LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, said the signing of the direct solar power purchase agreement is a significant step toward the company's goal of using 100 percent renewable energy.
He added that it also contributes to developing green and sustainable factories and industrial zones that meet both Vietnamese and international standards.

It is estimated that the renewable energy supplied to the LEGO factory will help reduce about 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions each year.
A representative of VSIP 3 emphasized that both the industrial park and the LEGO factory are model projects in the use of renewable energy, promoting low emission manufacturing and environmental protection.
Renewable energy solutions will continue to expand to more factories and industrial zones across Vietnam.
The 1,000-hectare industrial park was launched in March 2022 in Tan Uyen Town and Bac Tan Uyen District of the former Binh Duong Province, which is now part of Ho Chi Minh City.
LEGO's $1 billion factory, built on a 44-hectare site, is the first project in the park and one of the largest foreign direct investment projects in the city, capturing significant attention from both the Vietnamese and Danish governments.
Following its construction, the LEGO factory in the industrial park began operations in April 2025.
In addition to using renewable energy, the factory is also in the process of hiring more workers to expand production in the near future.
