The Hue administration held a ceremony on Wednesday to mark the milestone, coinciding with the country's Reunification Day (April 30).
Thuan An Bridge is now recognized as the longest sea-crossing bridge in central Vietnam.
The bridge project broke ground in March 2022 and is overseen by the Hue City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, which serves as the project's investor.
Construction was carried out by a consortium of contractors including Tan Nam, Dat Phuong, and 479 Hoa Binh, Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper reported.
Built as a permanent structure using both reinforced and prestressed concrete, the bridge spans approximately 2.36 kilometers in length and 20 meters in width, accommodating four lanes of traffic.
Classified as a Group A project – reserved for large-scale, high-priority infrastructure – the bridge features a hybrid beam-cable design.
Its main span measures 218 meters in length and reaches a height of 40 meters, combining the rigidity of beam structures with the tensile efficiency of cable systems.
The design offers both technical reliability and cost-effectiveness.
Thuan An Bridge is part of Hue's broader 22-kilometer coastal road development.
Phase 1 of this project covers 7.7 kilometers, including the bridge, with a total investment of VND2.4 trillion (US$92.4 million) sourced from both central and local budgets.
Despite challenges related to terrain, weather, and site clearance, the construction of the bridge has remained on schedule thanks to close supervision by the city's leadership and the strong commitment of the contractors and other relevant parties, Tien Phong reported.
The bridge is slated for technical clearance by Vietnam's National Day on September 2, with full project completion expected by the end of 2025.
Once operational, the bridge and coastal road are expected to become part of the national coastal transport network, driving economic and social development in Hue.
This project will also enhance regional tourism, improve livelihoods, and expand access to underutilized areas.
Beyond supporting coastal connectivity and easing movement along the North-South corridor, the bridge will strengthen disaster response capacity and open up roughly 1,500 hectares of land for urban development, tourism, and service industry investment.
