Magnitude-3.4 earthquake jolts northern Vietnamese province

The quake posed no risks of disasters

A magnitude-3.4 earthquake struck Nho Quan District, Ninh Binh Province, northern Vietnam on Monday morning, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

The quake occurred at 9:27 am at a depth of some 17 kilometers.

Many residents in Nho Quan District and the neighboring Thach Thanh District of Thanh Hoa Province felt the tremor.

Nguyen Nuong, a local resident, reported feeling her house's doors shaking accompanied by sounds for approximately 10 seconds.

“I saw metal roofing sheets and shelves rattling. My son shouted about the earthquake and I also felt the shaking clearly,” Thuy Hien, another resident, recalled.

The quake posed no risks of disasters, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

The institute said it was still keeping a close watch on the phenomenon.

In 2005, Ninh Binh Province experienced a magnitude-3.1 earthquake.
